How does the scale finder work?
It checks every scale in every key (13 scale types × 12 roots) and lists the ones that contain all the notes you picked. Scales with fewer extra notes are ranked first.
Why do I get so many results?
With only two or three notes, many scales fit. Add more notes from your melody or riff and the list narrows quickly. Five or six different notes usually leaves a handful.
Which result is the right one?
Look for the scale whose root is the note your melody keeps returning to or ends on. C major and A minor share the same notes; the home note decides which it is.
