Your first drum groove
Count “1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and”. Play the closed hi-hat (F) on every count and every “and”. Add the kick (A) on 1 and 3, and the snare (S) on 2 and 4. That’s the basic rock beat, the foundation of countless songs. Turn on the click track at 70 BPM and keep it steady before speeding up.
Once it’s solid, move the second kick to the “and” of 3 for a pop feel, or swap the closed hat for the ride (L) in the chorus. To lock a pattern into a loop and export it, use the beat maker.
Questions
How do I play the virtual drums?
Tap the pads on a touchscreen, click them, or use your computer keyboard: A kick, S snare, D clap, F closed hi-hat, G open hi-hat, H and J toms, K crash, L ride and ; rim. Several fingers can play at once.
Can I record a drum pattern?
Press Record and play; your hits are captured with their timing so you can replay them. To build a precise looping beat, the beat maker is easier.
Why is there a slight delay on some devices?
Some Bluetooth headphones add 100–200 ms of latency. Wired headphones or the device speaker give the tightest response.
